The individual patient
As human beings, we each have our own perception of the world and during a consultation I gain an insight and better understanding of this perception. With this understanding I will be able to personalise the hypnotic method, depth of trance and therapy to maximise the innate healing capacity of your own self. The proposed therapy will be discussed with you so that you have a full understanding of it and that any of your concerns and questions can be addressed.
N.B. I will combine hypnotic procedures with other therapeutic techniques if this is appropriate.
The nature of the problem
We can all have problems whether emotional, habitual or psychological in origin. There can be any number of reasons why a problem has arisen and, although in some cases it may serve a useful purpose to look at the source of the problem the important matter is to deal with how the problem is affecting you now. We need to work as a team to bring about the desired result.
The desired result
The goal of therapy is to bring about a solution to the problem. You will come to your therapy session with the desired result in your mind. It may be that you goal is highly realistic, achievable and beneficial to you or it may be that it needs to be honed into something more realistic. During your first session we can discuss what you want from the therapy. As a result of therapy you may find that you are becoming emotionally stronger and this new strength may bring about a review of your original goal. This is not unusual.
It is important to remember that good therapy is an interaction between patient, therapist and method. If the therapist is not right for you, it is unlikely that you will receive successful therapy. A good rapport between you and your therapist is critical.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is a psychotherapeutic technique used to treat anxiety, stress and unresolved disturbing and troubling symptoms resulting from traumatic experience. EMDR therapists are trained to work with the information-processing system in order to access the troubling experiences. Once accessed, these experiences need to be addressed to bring about optimal health.
EMDR is recognised as an effective trauma therapy by the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. It is one of the preferred trauma treatments designated by many organisations, for example the Northern Ireland Department of Health and the United States Department of Defence. The beneficial effects are achieved mainly by the alternating stimulation of the right and left hemispheres of the brain.
EMDR can be successfully used to treat:
